Who We Are
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization, the foundation of which is based on fulfilling four basic principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. The Order strives to enhance the spiritual life of its members and their families by promoting initiatives that strengthen ties with all aspects of the Catholic Church and its teachings through our ongoing dedicated support of the clergy.
Our Vision
Founded by Blessed Michael McGivney in 1882, the Knights of Columbus is the premier lay Catholic men’s organization. Guided by the principles of charity, unity and fraternity, we build lifelong relationships with our members and families. We are multigenerational and international. We offer formation, mutual aid and financial security to members through our charity, products and outreach. We aspire to invite every Catholic man to join the Knights of Columbus and to extend our charitable reach as widely as possible.
Charity
We find Christ in our neighbor and are changed by each encounter.
Unity
United in faith as members of the universal Church, our diverse brotherhood builds up the Body of Christ.
Fraternity
We seek Christ-centered brotherhood, encouraging one another to grow in holiness and virtue.
Patriotism
We strive to be faithful citizens, bearing witness to the true freedom that comes from pursuing lives of truth, justice, solidarity and above all, charity.
Membership Benefits
As a Knight, you’ll experience Christ-centered brotherhood and chances to lead, serve and grow in faith. Likewise, staying true to our history of mutual aid for members, you and your family also get access to tangible benefits.
How to Join
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years old. A practicing Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church. Application blanks are available from any member of the Knights of Columbus.

4th Degree
Any Third Degree member in good standing, one year after the anniversary of his First Degree, is eligible for membership in the Fourth Degree. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights’ respective countries through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called “assemblies”). Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus.
